This booklet provides an overview of genomics and explains the difference between genomics and genetics. It also discusses the following topics: the importance of personalized medicine for treating breast cancer, genetic and personal risk factors associated with breast cancer, high-risk individuals, breast cancer screening, and profiling of breast tumor. In addition, this resource provides information on targeted drug therapies for breast cancer, including those who are HER2 positive, hormone receptor-positive, or have breast cancer with BRCA gene mutations. and the oncotype DX test. Information is also given about oncotype DX test, a genomic test which evaluates specific genes in your breast tumor. A list of questions is included to ask your doctor about oncotype DX and a quiz is available to see if you are eligible for the test.
