Brain, central nervous system (CNS) is the 19th most common cancer worldwide. According to Globocan 2020 estimates, there were over 300,000 new diagnoses globally. Over 168,000 men were diagnosed,and 140,000 women were diagnosed. Brain and CNS tumors incidence rates vary globally, and North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina had the highest incidence, with the United States ranking #40 on the list.¹An estimated 23,890 adults in the United States will be diagnosed with primary cancerous tumors of the brain and spinal cord in 2020. Brain tumors make up 85%-90% of all primary CNS tumors.²

Family History: Most people with brain tumors do not have a family history of them, but in rare cases it does run in families. These families tend to have well defined disorders, such as:
- Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1)
- Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2)
- Tuberous sclerosis
- Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome
- Li-Fraumeni syndrome
- Turcot syndrome
